Entirely drinkable cab, for relatively cheap ($12/bottle.) Heavily tannic. Blueberries? And apples. Enjoyable. I’d drink it again.

Actually not bad! Particularily for an $8 bottle of French Pinot! Fruity, round, thoroughly enjoyable.

Kind of disappointing, actually. This was on Total Wine’s top 20 of the spring, but I wouldn’t buy it again (not even for $12/bottle.) Just blah. Tastes like red wine.

Not a bad Beaujolais. Not a great one, either. Kind of tastes like tin cans. Otherwise, obviously heavy on the gamay, but undeveloped.

It was the second bottle of the night, so my tastebuds were a little weak. But, at half the price of the Dumol, this was a steal. Very smooth & rounded tannins. A little light on the fruit.

Drank: 5/1/07 at The Crossing, Clayton MO.
Russian River Valley. Another excellent but hard to find wine on The Crossing’s wine list. This is another terrific St Louis area restaurant, French inspired but American practical. Quite delicious. And a chef who is more than happy to work to accommodate vegetarians (which is rather crucial, in my book.)
Anyway, the wine is delicious. Well blended fruity flavors, dry, not overly tannic. Highly recommended.

Drank: 5/5/07 at home, celebrating the new job with friends.
Good grief, this is delicious. Somebody rated it a 96, and it deserves every one of those. Flavors of strawberry, gingerale, coriander. Almost a Nag Champa like nose, as bizarre as that sounds. At $15/375ml, a total steal. Goes down like liquid gold.

Montaudon Champagne, Classe “M”

Drank: 5/5/07 at home, celebrating the new job with friends.

Wonderful! By far the best value in an excellent champagne that I have ever tasted. $39/bottle at total wine.
Initial nose of cider, with heavy and sweet apples, sharp alcohol, brown sugar, and a hint of lemon.
Strong bubbles. Well balanced on the palate.
Sharp aftertaste of pear & almond butter.

I went back and bought a bunch more of this. Great special occasion wine.

Ramos Pintos 30 year tawny port

Drank: 4/30/07 at Remy’s Kitchen and Wine Bar, Clayton MO.

A very satisfying ending to an excellent meal. Strong smokey nose, darkly sweet texture, with an aftertaste that I could taste the next day. Delightful, and reasonably priced for the age.

Licorish? Bizarre. Served strangely cold, and red in color. Enjoyable, if a bit sweet (even for a dessert wine.)
